As a guarantor you undertake, in respect of the dependent third-country national, the Belgian State and any competent public social welfare centre, for the duration of the planned stay, to bear the costs of any healthcare, housing, studies and repatriation of the dependent third-country national.
Please read the following procedure carefully:
Conditions for being a guarantor
- The guarantor must be a natural person at least eighteen years of age or be emancipated.
- The guarantor must:
- have the Belgian nationality, or
- be a citizen of the European Union who has a right of residence for more than three months in Belgium or another Member State of the European Union, or
- be a third-country national admitted or authorised to reside indefinitely in Belgium or another Member State of the European Union, or
- be a relativeup to the third degree of the third-country national to whom a formal obligation is to be undertaken.
- The guarantor must have regular and sufficient means of subsistence for themselves, for each dependent person and for each dependent third-country national.
Procedure
To assess if you meet the conditions to be a guarantor, please send the following documents via mail to copenhagen@diplobel.fed.be . Note that all documents must be valid at least until the end of the academic year (end of September 2025).
- A copy of your recent pay slips of the last three months
- A copy of your work contract(s)
- A copy of your passport
European Union citizen
- A copy of your recent pay slips of the last three months

- A copy of your Danish resident card (permanent residence permit)
Relative up to the third degree
- A copy of your recent pay slips of the last three months

- A copy of documentation to prove kinship tie (one or more birth certificates or other official documents, legalised/apostilled where appropriate
You can optionally add the following documents:
- A copy of the student’s passport (optional).
- A copy of the acceptance letter of the school (optional).
- If the Annex 32 concerns a student wanting to look for a job after their studies, please include a copy of the successful termination of the study (certificate of school, transcript of credits, degree, …)
The assessment of the formal obligation can take up to 4 weeks, depending on the time of year. Each application will be treated in the order we have received them. There is no need to send your email again or call during that time.
You will receive the result of the assessment (either positive or negative) via email. When all conditions are met, you are invited to book an appointment to sign the annex 32 in person at the consulate-general in Copenhagen.
Appointment
Bring following documents to your appointment:
- The annex 32, filled out but not yet signed or dated.
- A link to the annex 32 is available in the confirmation email or you can find the annex 32 (in French or Dutch) on the website of the Belgian Immigration office.
- Please make sure that the form annex 32 is printed on one page, so that the signature is visible on the front page (no recto-verso).
- Original passport.
- Original residence card (if applicable).
- Bankcard to pay the fee of 160 DKK (cost for legalisation of one document).
If you do not bring these documents the annex 32 cannot be signed at that time and you need to book a new appointment.
Appointments made without prior confirmation are automatically cancelled.
Reception of legalised annex 32
The signed, dated, legalised document will be sent to you via email within two weeks after the appointment.
